Summary

Positives

  • Patients who commit to pacing usually say it reduces crashes, makes the week more predictable, and helps them stop spending tomorrow’s energy today. Phoenix Rising.

Negatives

  • The most common frustration is that pacing often prevents worsening more reliably than it creates recovery, so people can feel safer but still very limited. Reddit.

Hurdles & Side Effects

  • The practical work is relentless: heart-rate ceilings, step counts, activity logs, cognitive pacing, and the emotional strain of stopping well before you feel done. Phoenix Rising.

Helps me prevent PEM as much as possible

Chronic Illnesses: Long COVID ME/CFS
Symptoms Treated: PEM (Post Exertional Malaise) - Moderate improvement - 1+ year

It’s not always fun but it helps me prevent PEM as much as possible. Though sometimes there is no escaping it. Especially when you are more severe. I recommend Classic Pacing For A Better Life With ME by Ingeborg Dahl for tips. A HR monitor (eg Garmin, fitbit, visible) also helps!

Improved PEM

Chronic Illnesses: Long COVID
Symptoms Treated: PEM (Post Exertional Malaise) - Better long time
Side Effects Experienced: None

For POTS I learned it is better to reduce consecutive minutes upright than to reduce total activity. e.g. I can walk a lot as long as I take breaks every 7 minutes
