UVA Health Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment Center's website describes its Charlottesville, Virginia program as offering Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to improve blood circulation and increase the blood's ability to deliver oxygen to body cells. Patients breathe 100% oxygen in a chamber concentrated at three times higher than normal air, with air pressure 2-3 times normal atmospheric pressure. Treatment plans involve daily two-hour sessions Monday through Friday for 20-50 sessions depending on diagnosis. The center treats bone infections, diabetic wounds with abscess or infection, gangrene, crush injuries, progressing necrotizing infections, radiation therapy damage to bone or tissue, and skin grafts and flaps with problems. The center does not offer HBOT for off-label diagnoses.
